Depicting horses and riders is as old as art. Equestrian photography captures the beauty and grace of horses in motion, as well as the skill and athleticism of the riders. Equestrian photographers must be able to capture split-second moments while the horses are in motion and those movements and environments are distinct for dressage, show jumping, eventing and racing. Of course, it’s essential to have a deep understanding of equine anatomy and physiology, and their interplay with the rider, the rider’s body language and emotional connection to the horse.
